No — never. All processing happens in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your files are not transmitted anywhere. You can disconnect from the internet after loading the page, and the tool works perfectly. That's our proof.
Will removing EXIF data reduce image quality?
No. ExifWipe re-encodes the image using canvas at high quality (94% for JPEG). The visible image data is untouched — only the hidden metadata container is stripped. Dimensions, colors, and sharpness are preserved.
What file formats are supported?
ExifWipe supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC/HEIF (iPhone photos). PDF, video, and Office document support is available on our Pro plan.
Does social media remove EXIF automatically?
Some platforms do (Instagram, Twitter/X), but many don't — or only partially strip it. Email, messaging apps, file sharing services, and direct downloads typically preserve all original metadata. Always strip it yourself before sharing.
